The playoff field is almost set, but Week 24 still has plenty of drama to deliver. Three matches, six clubs, and storylines that span the top and bottom of the table will take centre stage this weekend.
Toronto can clinch the league’s first-ever Supporters’ Shield, Ottawa can close the gap and keep the title race alive, and Calgary are fighting to stay in playoff contention for another week. Halifax may be eliminated but could still play spoiler, and Vancouver could punch their ticket to the postseason by the time the weekend is over.
Here’s your guide to Week 24 where every point matters.
Ottawa Rapid FC vs. AFC Toronto
Friday, September 26 – 7:00 PM ET
📍 TD Place | 🎥 TSN+, ESPN+, NSL.ca
Ottawa are rolling. After a perfect road swing, a 2-1 win in Calgary and a 3-0 statement over Vancouver, the Rapid (10-6-6) have climbed to second in the table and clinched a playoff spot. They are unbeaten in five and suddenly look like the hottest team in the league.
Toronto (13-6-3) remain top of the table and have held first place for 12 straight weeks, but last week’s 1-1 draw against Halifax felt like a missed opportunity to build a gap. With the Supporters’ Shield within reach, they will want to reassert themselves against their closest challengers.
These two sides are as evenly matched as it gets; identical goals against, nearly identical possession and passing stats, and three of the league’s top five scorers between them. DB Pridham continues her Golden Boot charge for Ottawa, while Toronto’s Kaylee Hunter and Esther Okoronkwo are relentless attacking threats.
What to Watch: Expect fireworks. These are the league’s top two scoring clubs, and their four previous meetings this season have produced a win apiece and two nail-biters. A Toronto win combined with a Montréal loss would secure the Supporters’ Shield but Ottawa have every reason to delay that celebration.
Montréal Roses FC vs. Calgary Wild FC
Saturday, September 27 – 12:00 PM ET
📍 Stade Boréale | 🎥 RDS Info, CBC Gem, NSL.ca
Montréal (10-6-5) are peaking at the right time. They officially clinched their playoff berth last week with a controlled 2-0 victory over Halifax and now turn their attention to securing the highest possible seed. The Roses’ attack has been lethal in recent weeks, with Tanya Boychuk and Stéphanie Hill both finding form, while their midfield trio has quietly become one of the league’s most consistent engines.
Calgary (6-13-2) arrive in do-or-die mode. The Wild sit twelve points behind Vancouver for the final playoff spot and know this is their last chance. A loss or draw ends their postseason hopes, while even a win leaves their fate dependent on Vancouver’s result later in the day. Defensive lapses have cost them points all season, but they have also shown flashes of brilliance, including a gritty win over Montréal earlier this year.
Both clubs have plenty to play for: Montréal are still within reach of second place, and Calgary will want to force the league to keep talking about them for at least one more week.
What to Watch: The opening twenty minutes could dictate the entire match. If Montréal strike early, they can slow the game and squeeze Calgary out of dangerous areas, but if the Wild score first, the match could open up into a frantic, back-and-forth contest. Montréal have the depth to manage a late surge, but Calgary thrive on chaos and they’ll need to embrace it to keep their season alive.
Halifax Tides FC vs. Vancouver Rise FC
Saturday, September 27 – 2:00 PM ET
📍 Wanderers Grounds | 🎥 CBC, CBC Gem
Halifax (3-13-5) are out of the playoff picture but far from disinterested. They earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Toronto last week, frustrating the league leaders and showing their ability to rise to the occasion. At home, in front of one of the loudest crowds in the league, they’ll have an opportunity to play spoiler and end Vancouver’s clinching party.
Vancouver (9-7-5) are still in control of their destiny. With 32 points, they could clinch their playoff spot before kickoff if Montréal take care of business against Calgary but even if they don’t, a win or a draw will secure their place. After a disappointing 3-0 home loss to Ottawa, they will be motivated to bounce back and rebuild confidence before the postseason.
This is a matchup that has historically favored Vancouver, with three wins and a draw this season, including a 6-0 rout back in July. But Halifax have tightened up defensively since then, holding Vancouver to a scoreless draw in their most recent meeting.
What to Watch: This could be a game where goalkeepers steal the show. Morgan McAslan (VAN) and Anika Tóth (HFX) rank first and second in total saves this season and are both capable of game-changing moments. Vancouver’s press could test Halifax’s backline, but if the Tides hold firm early, the tension will ratchet up and the longer they keep it close, the more dangerous this game becomes for the visitors.
