AFC Toronto held off a determined Calgary Wild FC side on Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-1 win in a heated contest at McMahon Stadium. Early goals from Kaylee Hunter and Cloey Uddenberg gave the league leaders control before a red card in the second half forced them to dig deep to preserve all three points.

With the result, Toronto further cement their dominance at the top of the table, having already clinched the inaugural Supporters’ Shield and the #1 playoff seed. Calgary, meanwhile, fought bravely but remain outside the playoffs cutoff this year.

Hunter and Uddenberg Put Toronto Ahead Early
Toronto wasted little time asserting themselves, striking first in the 19th minute when Kaila Novak threaded a precise pass through the Calgary back line for Kaylee Hunter. One of the league’s top scorers made no mistake, slotting home her 14th goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Fifteen minutes later, Toronto doubled the lead. This time, midfielder Nyota Katembo set up Cloey Uddenberg, who met the pass at the top of the box and drove a low finish past the keeper for 2-0. The visitors looked in full control heading into halftime.

Baucom Pulls One Back for Calgary
Calgary came out swinging after the break and immediately clawed one back. In the 48th minute, Jorian Baucom chased down a loose ball in the box, pressuring the Toronto keeper and tucking home the rebound to make it 2-1. The goal ignited the home crowd and set up a tense second half.

Tension boiled over in the 61st minute when Toronto forward Kaila Novak was shown a straight red card for violent conduct. Down to ten players, Toronto were forced to defend in numbers as Calgary pressed relentlessly. The hosts fired 15 shots to Toronto’s 8 but couldn’t find the equalizer despite sustained pressure.

Calgary (7-14-2, 23 points) stay in fifth and will remain at home for an October 11 match against Halifax Tides FC, looking to finish strong in front of their fans.
