Vancouver Rise FC capped off a perfect week on Saturday, earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Montréal Roses FC at Stade Boréale. An early strike from Jessica De Filippo proved the difference as Vancouver completed back-to-back wins to surge into second place in the standings.

The loss marks Montréal’s final home match of the regular season, as the Roses fell just short despite controlling much of the play. The result tightens the playoff race further, with Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montréal all separated by just three points heading into the final week.

De Filippo Strikes Early
Vancouver wasted no time finding their rhythm. In the 10th minute, Latifah Abdu drove the ball down the right flank before sending in a low cross to De Filippo, who made no mistake with a first-time finish from the center of the box. Her precise shot tucked neatly inside the far post, giving Vancouver the early 1-0 advantage and quieting the Stade Boréale crowd.

Montréal pushed hard for an equalizer, dictating possession and firing 15 shots throughout the match, but struggled to break through a disciplined Vancouver defense anchored by goalkeeper Morgan McAslan, who added another clean sheet to her standout campaign.

Match Stats

  • Possession: Montréal edged the battle with 51% of the ball.
  • Total Shots: The Roses outshot Vancouver 15 to 9 but couldn’t convert their chances.
  • Passing Accuracy: Vancouver held steady at 78%, just behind Montréal’s 79%.

Looking Ahead
Montréal (10-8-6, 36 points) remain in third place and will wrap up their regular season on October 19 with a marquee rematch against league-leaders AFC Toronto; the same matchup that was a part of the NSL’s inaugural opening weekend back in April.

Vancouver (11-7-6, 39 points) leapfrog into second place after their second win in four days and will look to maintain momentum when they visit Calgary Wild FC on October 16, another rematch of their opening-day fixture.
