Ottawa Rapid FC delivered a confident 3-0 win on the road Friday night, defeating Calgary Wild FC at McMahon Stadium in front of a spirited home crowd. First-half goals from Florence Belzile and DB Pridham, plus a second-half own goal, powered the Rapid to three points as they continued their strong midseason push.
With fans filling the stands for another exciting afternoon in Calgary, it was the visitors who found their rhythm early. Ottawa struck in the 12th minute when Florence Belzile calmly finished from close range to net her first NSL goal and open the scoring.
Ten minutes later, Ottawa doubled the lead through a familiar name: DB Pridham. The league’s top scorer added her 10th goal of the season with a clinical header off a set piece in the 22nd minute, becoming the first player in NSL history to hit double digits. The milestone drew applause even from some in the Calgary faithful, recognizing the quality of the finish.
Calgary looked to respond before the break, generating some promising buildup play and getting numbers forward, but Ottawa’s disciplined back line held firm.
Second-Half Setback for the Wild
Early in the second half, an unfortunate moment extended Ottawa’s lead. A deflected cross resulted in an own goal in the 48th minute, giving the Rapid a 3-0 advantage. No to be discouraged, Calgary didn’t fold. The Wild pressed forward throughout the final half-hour, with standout midfield play and attacking substitutions that brought renewed energy. But Ottawa managed the match well down the stretch, seeing out the clean sheet on the road.
