When the Northern Super League was founded, we set out to do more than build a league. We set out to build a movement. A movement that would give Canadian players a place to shine, give supporters a league they could truly call their own, and give the country a new pinnacle of sport to rally behind.

This November, that vision becomes tangible. For the first time, the Diana B. Matheson Cup will be lifted into the air, as a symbol of excellence, perseverance, and the power of this game.

A Trophy With a Story
Diana never asked for this honour. But across the league, among every club, there was no question: this trophy had to carry her spirit and her name.

Diana Matheson’s iconic goal in London 2012 changed everything. It turned Canada into a global contender. It sparked a generation of young players. It gave Canada its first Olympic soccer medal and a belief that the future of this game could be bigger than anyone had imagined.

The Cup is unapologetic in its design, powerful in its meaning, and hopeful in its energy. Every layer tells a story:

Wood Base – replaced every year with wood from the champion’s home region, grounding the trophy in place and community.
Bronze Layer – recalling London 2012, when Diana’s goal brought Canada its first Olympic soccer medal and ignited a new era.
Silver Layer – representing unity, engraved with the league’s logos in English and French.
Gold Body – celebrating Canada’s Olympic gold in 2020 and the athletes who inspired the creation of this league.
Aurora Threads – wrapping the trophy in light and movement, symbolizing new pathways for future players.
North Star – crowning the Cup, a guiding light pointing to what comes next.

The Diana B. Matheson Cup is a symbol of the highest level of the game in Canada and of the brave soul, collective power, and relentless pursuit of excellence that brought this league to life.

On November 15, history will be made. The first champions will be crowned. And the story of Canadian soccer will take another bold step forward - lit by aurora threads, guided by a North Star, and powered by the voices of fans coast to coast.
