Calgary Wild FC kept their postseason hopes alive on Saturday night with a gritty 2-0 victory over Montréal Roses FC at Stade Boréale. Against the run of play, Calgary capitalized on their chances while Montréal, despite dominating possession, failed to find the net.

The result snaps Montréal’s almost 2-month long unbeaten run at home and provided Calgary with a vital lifeline as they await the outcome of Halifax’s clash with Vancouver later in the evening. Montréal, already assured of a playoff berth, remain firmly in third place.

Captain Opens the Scoring
Calgary’s breakthrough came on the stroke of halftime. After her initial effort and a teammate’s follow-up were both blocked in quick succession, captain Meggie Dougherty Howard pounced on the loose ball and finally buried it to give the visitors a 1-0 lead just before the break.

Baucom Seals It Late
Montréal pushed forward in the second half, generating chance after chance, but it was Calgary who found the decisive finish. In the 78th minute, Jorian Baucom latched onto a loose ball in the box and slotted a precise strike into the far corner to double the advantage and effectively seal the result.

Match Stats

  • Possession: Montréal controlled 66% of the ball but couldn’t turn it into goals.
  • Total Shots: The Roses outshot Calgary 14 to 8 but lacked clinical finishing.
  • Passing Accuracy: Montréal’s 80% success rate dwarfed Calgary’s 65%, yet the visitors were sharper when it mattered.

Looking Ahead
Montréal (10-7-5, 35 points) stay in third place and will travel to face Halifax Tides FC on October 2 before preparing for their spot in the inaugural NSL Final in November.

Calgary (7-13-2, 23 points) remain mathematically alive in the playoff race, though their fate hinges on results elsewhere. They’ll return home for a daunting matchup against league-leaders AFC Toronto on October 4.
